Consequently a company that charges by the hour has ZERO incentive to make these investments, wouldn't you agree?
Now compare this company to a company that operates on a fixed price basis.
When a company operates on a fixed price basis, they are now incentivised to undertake advanced / specialised training and to invest in professional tools and tool storage systems because it makes them more efficient.
What type of plumber do you want in your home? One that is incentivised to make continuous investments in the business to give you the most efficient service possible, or one that is incentivised not to make these investments?
When a company offers a low hourly rate, that is no indication that they will solve your problem for a lower price.
If you have a basic problem such as a dripping tap, a company with a low hourly rate might be your best option.

The alternative is to ask for a Fixed Price that will not change.
Very few companies will be willing to give you a fixed price because it takes a lot more work to create the price meaning it's not something you can offer for free and it means they cannot provide a low price in their quote to get the job and then bump it up a bit once work has started. (Yes this happens too!)
If you want a guaranteed fixed price for your work, you should expect to pay the plumber for their time.

Whilst there are still some plumbers willing to invoice domestic clients for their work, due to the number of clients that either fail to pay their invoice on time, fail to pay the full amount or just refuse to pay anything, such companies are becoming less common.
The reason for this is simple.
